Experiential learning through the arts continues to create powerful opportunities for student growth — and recently, This Is Improv had the honor of facilitating a special improv masterclass for students at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), hosted at the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center.
This educational experience was made possible through the generosity and vision of the Miniaci Performing Arts Center, whose ongoing commitment to expanding access to artistic programming provides meaningful learning opportunities for students across disciplines.
Bringing Improv Training to Higher Education

The masterclass introduced students to improvisational techniques designed to strengthen collaboration, communication, and creative confidence. While improv is often associated with comedy and performance, its applications extend far beyond the stage. This is why we often use improv for corporate consultation, training, and teambuilding.
During the workshop, students explored:
Ensemble collaboration and teamwork
Active listening and adaptability
Spontaneous storytelling and creativity
Confidence-building through experiential exercises
By creating a supportive and engaging environment, the program encouraged students to take creative risks, explore new perspectives, and discover how improvisation can support both artistic expression and professional development.
Experiential Learning That Builds Real-World Skills

Improvisation has become an increasingly valuable tool in educational settings because it helps students develop transferable skills that support leadership, communication, and problem-solving. Through hands-on exercises and guided activities, participants practiced thinking on their feet, responding authentically, and collaborating to support one another.
These experiences align with broader educational goals that emphasize experiential learning — allowing students to learn through doing rather than observation alone.
At This Is Improv, the focus extends beyond performance training. Workshops are designed to empower participants with skills that strengthen confidence, adaptability, and interpersonal connection — qualities that benefit students both academically and professionally.
A Shared Commitment to Arts Education

This Is Improv is deeply grateful to the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center for championing arts education and investing in opportunities that enrich student experiences at Nova Southeastern University.
Partnerships like these highlight the important role performing arts organizations play in supporting student development and fostering creative communities in South Florida.
As educational institutions continue to explore innovative approaches to learning, improvisation offers a unique bridge between creativity and real-world skill-building — helping students grow as artists, collaborators, and future leaders.
